Exclusive event for QVMAG Friends

A Night with the Stars

Hosted by Blenheim Gallery and Garden
This QVMAG Friends Night will be a wonderful opportunity to marvel at the Midlands night sky amid the gardens of beautiful Blenheim.
Come and spend an evening in rural Tasmania with Martin George, who has this year received the highest world International Planetarium Society’s Service Award at a bi- yearly conference in Toulouse, France.
Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery’s Martin George will introduce guests to our marvellous universe
through a telescope. Explore the Milky Way, Saturn and the Moon plus other sparkly sights, and then wander through the property’s gallery.
Martin George believes his efforts in promoting worldwide collaboration in astronomical research and education will be one of his career’s lasting legacies. This legacy was recently cemented by the most significant planetarium association in the world.
The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery collections and research manager was awarded the International Planetarium Society’s Service Award at the body’s bi-yearly conference in Toulouse, France, last month.
“We believe very strongly that talking to people about the night sky and teaching people about astronomy brings the world together. Martin said the future of astronomy was bright throughout Australia, particularly in Tasmania.”
A preview of our new exhibition “Some of my bush friends in Tasmania : native flowers, berries and insects”, which is a contemporary exhibition will also be a highlight with works by Lauren Black, Vida Pearson, Rachel Bremner, Patricia Giles and John Wolseley. This exhibition is inspired by the works of Louisa Anne Meredith.

Be sure to rug up, but there’ll be soup and savouries for some extra warmth.

Guests are welcome to bring their own telescope.
