Shimmering – Minimal to Abstraction

Inspired by The Field exhibition “Shimmering at Blenheim Gallery” will showcase works executed over a period of time, and includes minimal to Abstract works which take the audience from something subtle and suggestive through to strong emotional content and a shimmering of light, with vitality as well as colour and subtlety.
The artists participating in “Shimmering” are Kerry Gregan, Tracey Delphin, John Peart, Alun Leach Jones, Syd Ball, Ian Parry and Michael Muruste.
The Field exhibition in 1968 saw the opening of the National Gallery of Victoria in its then new St Kilda Road premises designed by Sir Roy Grounds. This exhibition highlighted a radical showcase of 74 abstract and conceptual, colour field, geometric and hard edge artworks. This comprehensive display of colour field painting and abstract sculpture in Australia was collectively a major step in Australian art and is now regarded as a landmark exhibition in Australian art history. The Field saw works by Dale Hickey, John Peart, Vernon Treweeke, Peter Booth, Alun Leach – Jones and many more.
