Blenheim Gallery is pleased to showcase recent sculptural works of Gene McLaren.
Earlier in life Gene studied engineering pattern making and one can see his interest in angles and architectural elements as displayed in his new work as they involve mixed mediums of corten steel, cement, aluminium and other metals to produce the final sculpture.
Over the last 5 years in particular Gene has participated successfully in a number of sculpture exhibitions both at Blenheim Gallery with works in Pulse exhibition, Blenheim Gallery Shapes in Spaces inaugural Sculpture $10,000 prize exhibition and new works displayed in the garden.
It is one thing to have the skill to understand materials and what they will do and how they will perform, but to have a final concept in mind and see what can result is equally special.
We commend the new work and feel that Gene’s pieces should be held in private as well as corporate collections. At Blenheim we have supported Gene with the acquisition of some work which sits beautifully in the garden.
Gene has also created a commissioned work for Bridestowe Lavender Estate and is now represented in a number of private and corporate collections in Tasmania.
