Contemporary artists whose works are part of the exhibition show the same enthusiasm and admiration for the beauty and flight of the ornithological world as did John and Elizabeth Gould 180 years ago.

John Gould was dedicated to the discovery and scientific documentation of Birds throughout the world such as their “Birds of Australia” His wife Elizabeth produced during her short lifetime 600 exceptional hand coloured lithographs from her husband’s collection, then following her death other artists worked for John Gould such as H C Richter.  This exhibition has been inspired by “A Birdman’s Wife” by Melissa Ashley’s enlightening story of the Goulds lives both in Tasmania, New South Wales and England.
