Blenheim Gallery and Garden: A Journey in Art and Horticulture
Establishment and Milestones
Blenheim Gallery and Garden opened its doors in 2014 and has since become a significant cultural destination in rural Tasmania. In 2024, the gallery marked a decade of successful operation with a special exhibition titled "Director’s Choice," celebrating its enduring contribution to the Tasmania’s arts scene.
Jennie Caswell: A Lifetime in the Arts
Director Jennie Caswell brings over 45 years of experience in the arts, having developed and managed several businesses including Art Stretchers in Tasmania, Powell Street Gallery in Melbourne, and now Blenheim Gallery and Sculpture Garden. Her journey is a testament to lifelong dedication and passion for both art and horticulture.
Educational and Artistic Foundations
Jennie’s academic background in horticulture at Melbourne University has played a pivotal role in shaping her professional pursuits. Her early exposure to contemporary Australian and European art—thanks to her father, artist David Chapman—instilled in her a deep appreciation for art that has guided her career and personal growth.
Leadership and Community Engagement
As Director of Blenheim Gallery, Jennie now works alongside her husband, Stephen Caswell, who is also engaged in farming. Her leadership extends beyond gallery to former management and active involvement with the National Trust in Tasmania and other not-for-profit organisations. Jennie has contributed significantly to the Arts Foundation of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston, where she served as Chairman for 4 years, now past Chair. Her commitment is further demonstrated through board positions at the Australian Tapestry Workshop in Victoria and Blooming Tasmania, enhancing her business and governance expertise and broadening her interests.
Passion for Art and Artists
Jennie finds great joy in exhibiting artists’ work at Blenheim Gallery. Her dedication to presenting diverse exhibitions has not only enriched her own life but also fostered meaningful relationships with artists. Through her commercial representation and support, many artists on a statewide basis has found opportunities to develop and thrive within the vibrant Tasmanian arts community.
