Kate Bergin: The Travelling Surrealist

An inaugural Tasmanian exhibition at Blenheim Gallery and Garden

For her first Tasmanian exhibition at Blenheim, acclaimed Australian painter Kate Bergin presents a new series of meticulously rendered, surreal still life. Animals gather on white-draped tabletops among telephones, spectacles, spoons and other curious objects, transforming familiar arrangements into scenes alive with tension, humour and possibility. Birds seem ready to take flight, creatures balance on the edge of action, and each composition hovers between order and delightful chaos.

Kate Bergin is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Bendigo Art Gallery and Artbank. Her honours include the Albany Art Prize, a Highly Commended award in the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, the Arthur Guy Memorial Art Prize People’s Choice Award, and multiple selections as a Sulman Prize finalist. She was also included in Top 100 Artists in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
