David Hamilton’s “Jack in a Box” Returns to Blenheim Gallery

Permanent Installation at Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Garden

David Hamilton’s remarkable sculpture, “Jack in a box”, has made its way back to the Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Garden, where it is now on permanent display. This superb artwork has travelled extensively, having previously featured in Sculpture By the Sea - Bondi 2022, as well as being a notable entry in the Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Prize and Exhibition 2023.

The significance of colour in Hamilton’s work

As is the case with many of David Hamilton’s visually striking sculptures, the use of the colour ‘red’ is particularly significant and contemporary. This bold choice of colour accentuates the form of the piece, making it stand out prominently against surrounding buildings. In the context of the Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Garden, the red hue helps to highlight the unique shape and presence of “Jack in a Box”.

David’s particular area of specialization is metal casting as well as working in powder coated steel and the result is an immaculately produced sculpture of exceptional beauty.
