The Things You May Find, watercolour on paper 2022

Artist Statement

The Things You Find is based on recollections and observations of sites encountered in the Tasmanian bushland. These walks lead to musing on ideas that circulate around the representation of land, country, sites and views. How places affect me and the impact of my presence are concurrent thoughts.

My practice draws from decorative traditions inspired by the natural environment. Motifs in this work include fragments of plants and discarded human belongings, yabby casts, horizontal lines, geographical features and forest litter.

The composition recalls the constant rearrangement of the physical world by the haphazard process of natural and human generated events.
