Gene McLaren

Earlier in life, Gene studied engineering pattern making. This foundational knowledge is reflected in his artistic work, where his keen interest in angles and architectural elements is evident. Gene incorporates a variety of mixed mediums, such as corten steel, cement, aluminium, and other metals, to craft his final sculptures. The combination of these materials highlights both his technical expertise and his creative vision.

Exhibition Experience and Achievements

Over several years, Gene has actively participated in numerous sculpture exhibitions. Notably, at Blenheim, he showcased his work in the Pulse exhibition as well as the inaugural Shapes in Spaces exhibition in 2021. These achievements underscore his ongoing success and recognition within the artistic community.

Skill and Vision in Sculpture

Gene’s ability to understand the properties and potential of different materials is a significant aspect of his practice. However, what truly sets his work apart is his capacity to envision a final concept and bring it to life, resulting in sculptures that are both technically impressive and artistically meaningful.

Gene McLaren has also completed a major commission for Glenorchy Ambulance Station through Arts Tasmania.
